One of my all time favorites:
starting very early in darkness from the trailhead along the Left Fork of North Creek (part of Zion NP) with headlights to my destination, the "Subway", i reached after 3 hours this picturesque location.

Caligo es un género de lepidópteros ditrisios de la familia Nymphalidae conocidos vulgarmente como mariposas búho. Incluye 20 especies propias de las selvas de Centro y Sudamérica hasta los 1800 m s. n. m., desde el sur de México hasta el sur de Brasil, y en Trinidad y Tobago.
Destacan por su tamaño. Las larvas llegan a medir hasta 15 cm de largo y los adultos pueden superar 20 cm de envergadura
Su nombre común proviene de los grandes ocelos en la parte posterior de las alas, que parecen ojos grandes.
Aunque actualmente no se sabe a ciencia cierta la significación de estos ocelos, sí se conoce que en otras mariposas, particularmente en el caso de Satyrinae, cumplen la función de desviar el ataque de los pájaros hacia partes menos vulnerables del cuerpo, mientras se protege el abdomen y la cabeza de la mariposa. Se requiere sin embargo mucha más investigación para descifrar cómo aprecian los depredadores a estas mariposas, ya que una cosa es el camuflaje frente al observador humano y otra con respecto a aves que pueden apreciar los rayos ultravioleta.
En cualquier caso se considera que los ocelos forman parte de una estrategia de cripsis que protege a las mariposas. Algunas especies vuelan solamente unos pocos metros para evitar exponerse a los pájaros. Las mariposas búho tienen hábitos crepusculares y son pocos los pájaros activos a las mismas horas que ellas, por lo cual sus principales depredadores son aparentemente lagartijas tales como las del género Anolis. Se ha sugerido que los ocelos de las mariposas búho tratan de semejar la cabeza de las ranas Hyla a las que temen los Anolis. Esta hipótesis tampoco ha sido probada, pero es cierto que los ocelos sirven a varias especies para protegerse de los depredadores

When I took this picture, the owner told me to keep my fingers away from the beak. They have very powerful beaks that can generate a pressure of 500 up to 2,000+ psi (pounds per square inch). Humans, for example, average a bite force of around 150 psi.
This image was captured at Parrot In Paradise, a parrot rescue, rehabilitation, education and adoption center. We were fortunate enough to stay on the property during our travels on the Big Island of Hawaii. . Being invited into the aviaries with these gorgeous birds was exciting. I was new to using a macro lens and found myself moving closer and closer to the birds. Before leaving I offered many of my photographs to the owners and throughout the years, those images have been used on their website. What golden memories!

What has happened to the art of respect? We are all human beings, made of flesh and blood, no-one is superior to anyone else. It is time to change the political rhetoric which is supposed to guide us. The language used these days is not fit for our children's ears, it needs to be cleaned up so that we can teach our children about love and diversity, not hate and non acceptance! It is President Trumps duty to lead by example, through educated behavior which can also benefit his own son.

This wiry fence is doing its best to keep people from falling off the cliff overlooking a local waterfall. You can just make out the top of the falls in the background. However, the fence itself is not one I would trust to hold me if I lean on it. It is definitely up to people to respect the boundaries and take caution. We love all the snowshoeing we have been doing this month as we continue to get fresh snowfalls everyday. On this day, the snow was so wet, it was a challenge to keep our gear dry. Happy Fence Friday!

Ο ωραιότερος κοιμητηριακός ναός,εξ όσων έχω δεί τουλάχιστον,είναι αναμφιβόλως ο Ιερός Ναός προς τιμήν του Αγίου Γεωργίου στο χωριό Γλίνος, ο οποίος,σύμφωνα με εντοιχισμένη κτητορική επιγραφή, ανηγέρθη το 1818 στη θέση Παλιοκόπρια, όπου βρισκόταν αρχικά το χωριό ως ενοριακός,τότε,ναός.
Σχετικά προσφάτως ολοκληρώθηκαν οι εργασίες υποστήλωσης,εξωραϊσμού και διαμόρφωσης του περιβάλλοντος χώρου με πλήρη σεβασμό προς την αρχιτεκτονική φυσιογνωμία του ώστε το μεταβυζαντινό μνημείο,όπως έχει χαρακτηρισθεί από το Υπουργείο Πολιτισμού,να κληροδοτηθεί στις επόμενες γενεές εδραίο και περικαλλέστερο.
The most beautiful cemetery, to my knowledge, is undoubtedly the Holy Church in honor of St. George in the village of Glinos, which, according to a built-in inscription, was erected in 1818 at the site of Paliokopria, where the village was originally then.
Recently completed work of restoration, landscaping and configuration of the surrounding area in full respect of the architectural character of the post-Byzantine monument,as designated by the Ministry of Culture, to be bequeathed to future generations well-established and more beautiful.
